The small-scale out-growers are responsible of more than half of the worldwide raw cane production whilst not having equal access to support compared to full time cane producers. SmartCane fills a crucial gap in the sugarcane value chain, by focussing on the small-scale producers.

Sugarcane is a commodity crop, growing as monocrop on larger areas. The above ground biomass is what is harvested and processed. This crop is very visible from space. Specifically, the health of the crop, key for production, is visible with remote sensing data. SmartCane bv has developed algorithms that provide operational guidance for growers. Focussing on trends, day-by-day developments in the field, highlight the onset of change. Replacing parts of the scouting, and turning the rough, hot, sweaty field conditions into an objective data-based production system.
